Wolfmother: Cosmic Egg – A Review
The first song I heard by Wolfmother was 'Dimension' back in 2007. At that point in time I was heavily into the nu-rock scene. I was enthralled in bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, Australian rock being the farthest thing from my mind. I felt that the band was utter crap, and wasn't willing to listen to more than 30 seconds of this old school sounding music; all of which I was against.
Two years later, forged with a wider range of musical taste, I must say that I'm excited for the release of 'Cosmic Egg'. Wolfmother's second studio album, due to release October 26th, promises to be their claim to fame. Spin magazine published a track-by-track review, and from what I hear, this is going to be more hard rock then metal. More intense
The bands self-titled debut album was released on Halloween of 2005, and certified 5 times platinum. If they want to outdo themselves, Ian Peres will need to bring the same funky bass lines that Chris Ross showed off in songs like 'Love Train' and 'Woman'. Ross, who was the bands bassist and keyboardist, left alongside Myles Heskett in mid 2008, citing musical differences is what drew them apart. They've both moved onto playing in a progressive-rock band, 'Palace of Fire'. Andrew Stockdale is still the face of the band, and his one of a kind voice will most definitely attract new and old fans alike.
'New Moon Rising' has been released to the public, and it sounds pretty impressive so far. If you're a fan of bands like The Beatles, The White Stripes, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, you will most likely enjoy Wolfmother in general. Be sure to check out their new album next month
